Holiday Refrigerator Disasters

Refrigerator

If there is ever a time you need your refrigerator to work properly, it is during the busy holiday season. However, there are some refrigerators that refuse to cooperate. If you love hearing tales about holiday disasters, we have a few for you right here. These are cautionary tales about what you shouldn’t do when you want your refrigerator to last.

That Holiday Cleanout at the Office

We all know it is the holiday season when we get an email to clean out the office refrigerator so that it can be defrosted and cleaned during the down time. However, there are times when cleaning the refrigerator out could end up being a hazmat situation. One office manager decided to clean the refrigerator out and deep clean it with chemicals because there had been a lot of food left in it that had become moldy. However, the bleaching chemicals mixed with the growing fungi and created a situation so horrible, a hazmat team was called in and the office building was evacuated.

To avoid this disaster, we suggest someone–and you could take turns–works to clean out the refrigerator at home or at work every week. Deep clean your refrigerator every month. That way, that horrible mold doesn’t have a chance to grow, and your fridge won’t stink.

After A Power Outage

Many of us in California have been experiencing rolling blackouts and power outages–right before the holiday season. If this has happened to you, you need to be careful when you are powering your fridge back up. Be sure that you have cleaned out all the spoiled food from your refrigerator and you have cleaned the inside out as well. That way, your spoiled food doesn’t become a toxic holiday soup. In fact, if you don’t clean out your refrigerator, the mold and goo can disintegrate the inside of your refrigerator–which would be a costly holiday mess.

You Can’t Store Everything In the Fridge

Not only is a clean refrigerator healthier for you, it is better for your refrigerator as well. Be sure that you are storing food and beverages in your refrigerator–and that’s it. We have heard stories about human and animal waste, bait, and other items that don’t need to be stored next to food claiming a spot in your fridge. If you must store bait or other non-food items, you may want to think about purchasing a small refrigerator to use in your garage or basement to store those items.

If your refrigerator acts up over the holidays, why not give us a call? We would love to talk to you about your refrigerator woes, and get them fixed right away.
