Tips and Tricks for Cleaning Your Glass Stovetop

Stovetop

A glass stovetop is elegant and beautiful until it’s dirty. Worse, letting the gunk and debris pile up on your stovetop can actually lead to serious stovetop malfunctions. Fortunately, cleaning a glass stovetop is fairly easy, and can even be a great stress relief. Here’s what you need to know when cleaning a glass stovetop:

Start with the Owner’s Manual: The owner’s manual will let you know which cleaning products are best for your glass stovetop. If you can’t find your owner’s manual, you may be able to find some information online simply by entering the manufacturer and model of your oven.

Clean When Cool: You always want to make sure that your stove is off and has had time to cool down before you clean. This seems like common sense but it is an easy mistake to make if you’re in a rush.

Avoid Harsh Tools and Chemicals: While scrubbing down your stovetop with a brush may give you a sense of satisfaction, it may also leave scratches on the glass. Instead of scrub pads and brushes, opt for a sponge or a microfiber cloth to avoid damaging the stovetop surface. Likewise, you’ll want to skip heavy-duty cleaners. These can be overkill and many are made from harsh chemicals that may be harmful to your health as well, especially when inhaled.

Use Vinegar and Baking Soda for Heavy Duty Cleaning: If your stovetop is a mess, a mixture of vinegar and baking soda can work just as well as heavy-duty cleaners, without posing a danger to your health. Spritz your stove down with vinegar and apply baking soda. Once you’ve added the baking soda, cover the area with a damp cloth or towel for about 10-15 minutes and wipe off the baking soda. If your stovetop is particularly dirty, you may need to do this several times.

Clean Daily to Avoid Big Messes: One of the easiest ways to keep your glass stovetop tidy is to give it a wipe down at the end of each day. This helps prevent buildup and staining while ensuring that your stovetop is always ready the next morning.

For a daily cleaning, you’ll want to spritz the glass stovetop with water or a mix of water and vinegar and wipe down with a sponge or microfiber cloth. A soft dry cloth can also be used to buff your oven to ensure that there aren’t any smudges.
