What’s a Turkey Without a Stove? Uncooked!

Of all of the kitchen items you need over the holidays, there is probably not one appliance that is more important than your stove. After all, how can the holiday turkey get cooked without an oven? You need the cooktop to make those mashed potatoes, after all. So, what happens to make a stove stop working? We have some thoughts.

My Oven Isn’t Heating

There is nothing worse than opening your oven to put in that ham, turkey, stuffing or rolls, and feeling–well–nothing. No heat at all. That creates a huge problem for anyone’s holiday meal. If you have a gas oven, it may be the igniter is bad. If you have an electric oven, it could be the heating element. Both of these items will need to be replaced on your gas or electric stove before you will be able to use it.

On some ovens, there may be some warning signs before an element or igniter goes out. For example, you may notice your oven doesn’t seem to be heating to the correct temperature. Also, it may take your oven longer to warm up. If you start to see these problems with your oven, the sooner you call us, the sooner we can fix it.

My Oven Is Too Hot or Too Cold

Although this sounds like the same problem we were talking about earlier, it isn’t. There are times that ovens may be heating your food at a much higher temperature than you need. Other times, it may be taking forever to cook your food. A temperature sensor may be going out in your stove, which is why it is not heating your food the way you wanted. Once we replace that sensor, your food should heat to the temperature you wanted.

My Oven Isn’t Cooking Evenly

If you are making cakes or cookies for the upcoming holiday feast, this could be a problem. However, this problem is usually the easiest one to fix, and you may be able to fix it yourself. First, check the positions of your oven racks. Changing them around might make all the difference. Also, you may want to check your bakeware. Make sure you are using the correct bakeware for your type of oven. If all else fails, we can check your temperature sensor or your heating element to make sure they are working properly.
